Game 19 Takeaways
Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Lakers
Jazz go winless for the week in low-scoring loss to LA.
The Utah Jazz made a quick trip to Los Angeles Friday night to face off against the Los Angeles Lakers and newly-acquired star Lebron James. The game was Utah’s first against the Lakers this season, and their first against Lebron James since he joined the Western Conference during the offseason.
Utah made the trip to LA after returning home from an east coast road trip (lost to Sacramento), and will return to the east coast this week for another.
The Jazz were forced to play most of the game without Donovan Mitchell, who left the game early with a bone contusion on his rib. Mitchell will not return to the team in time to play Sacramento Sunday night.
Utah came out of the gates slow once again, this time coming closer to coming back, but ultimately falling short. Utah leaves California with the loss 90 – 83.

TAKEAWAY #1
Which Team is Gonna Show Up?
Against the Lakers, Utah’s defense seemed to be playing as well as we’ve seen all year. Unfortunately, Utah’s offense seemed to be playing as poorly as we’ve seen all year.
Throughout the entire season, there seems to be a few different versions of this team that can show up on any night. Will we shoot lights out and forget to defend? Will we lock down the opposing team and forget how to shoot?
After a winless week, I’d like to see a team playing better all around with increased consistency. They don’t even have to win.
Just show up.
TAKEAWAY #2
How Slow Did We Start?
I guess, technically, you could say our start wasn’t quite as bad as the most recent games, but scoring 16 points in a quarter isn’t anything to be proud of…
Okay, so it seems like the Jazz starting slow has become a theme. Which leads me to ask…
Why is it happening? And even more importantly…
How do we (Quin Snyder) fix it?
TAKEAWAY #3
If The Season Were a Single Game
The Utah Jazz are currently 8-11 on the season.
This time last year, what do you think the Jazz’s record was? That’s right: 8-11.
We saw how it all worked out last year, so will it be the same type of thing again? If you look at the season as a single game, you could argue that the Jazz are just getting off to a slow start, but that we’ll eventually turn it around.
Sure, there’s some hope in that theory…
BUT, there’s also some fear that comes along with it.
The Jazz have been getting off to some of the slowest starts I’ve ever seen an NBA team get off to this year. It seems like each game they get back into it, but at the end, they come up short.
So what will be the case for the entire year? Will the Jazz be able to figure it out and make the huge run we saw last year?
