Game 02 Takeaways – Utah Jazz vs Golden State Warriors

October 20, 2018 by Kelby Jones Leave a Comment

Utah Jazz vs GSW

Utah Jazz vs Golden State Warriors Part of Entertaining NBA Week 01

The Utah Jazz vs Golden State Warriors game opened up the home schedule for Jazz fans this week. The game was featured on ESPN, marketed as matchup with playoff implications.

The game saw the Jazz jump to a big early lead behind the sharp shooting of Joe Ingles. Ingles finished the game with a career high 27 points in the matchup.

Unfortunately for the home crowd, GSW made the huge comeback. All, of course, capped off by former Jazz man Jonas Jerebko’s last second tip-in off a Kevin Durant miss to seal the game.

The Warriors leave Salt Lake City with the single-point victory, 124-123.

Watch the video below for full game highlights:

Podcast – Jazz Fan Show’s Takeaways from Utah Jazz vs Golden State Warriors

This topic has been discussed on Episode 03 of The Jazz Fan Show, which you can listen to below:

#1 | Joe Ingles AKA “Old Reliable”

After my nerves were finally calm following the Utah Jazz vsGolden State Warriors game, I came out of my rage blackout to realize Joe Ingles led the team in scoring with a career-high 27 points.

Keeping in mind it was somewhere around 1:00 AM at this point, my mind began to settle upon the realization of the possibility of Joe Ingles leading the team in scoring for the year.

Luckily, I was able to fall asleep soon thereafter. BUT, the guy has been the undeniable leader for the team this season.

When the ball is in his hands, my doubts seem to vanish.

I see the pick-and-roll begin to form and I know my man Joe will make sure either he or Rudy get those buckets.

Even when he’s guarding- WAIT.

…I need to stop or this may spiral right into a love poem.

#2 | Refereeing Inconsistencies

One of the main offseason focus points for NBA referees this year was the hold that takes place after a screen.

This was obvious during the first half when The Jazz made it to the free throw line more than 20 times.

However, something at halftime changed the refs minds about the idea. The Jazz found themselves shooting less than 20 free throws in the second half.

I get that emotion and human-error has its place within refereeing. I’m just sick of everybody, including the freaking REFEREES, worshipping this incredibly top-heavy “super team” called the Warriors.

#3 | Expectations for Exum #Alliteration

Dante showed up to play again tonight, which of course, I personally loved to see.

The guy is playing great, and there are even times when I trust him more than Rubio in the PG role.

I’m not saying he should take that starting role from Ricky by any means. I actually prefer him coming off the bench and facing other bench players most of the time.

However, I’ve already become more comfortable with Dante coming in and running the offense. I trust that he can do so.

That being said, please Dante… PLEASE DANTE! You gotta work on not landing so hard, man. I get that it’s the NBA and that happens, but every single time you go to the hole? Maybe take a skydiving class that teaches landing techniques or something?

#4 | Draymond, Draymond, Draymond

I don’t want to waste much energy typing about this clown. Refs have been told to enforce respect for the game, but nothing’s changed for Bozo the clown.

Should’ve been tossed or at least given technical fouls multiple times.

#5 | Jerebko’s Tip = Curse of The Bear?

The man who played the Jazz Bear was let go just prior to the Utah Jazz vs GSW game. The man had played the character for 24 years, receiving the “mascot of the year” award five times in that span, including last season.

When Kevin Durant missed his game-winning shot attempt and Jerebko was standing under the hoop, unchallenged by a single Jazz player, it was almost as if I could see the ghost of the former Jazz Bear sitting on the rim to make sure the shot dropped.

Good one, ghost. Glad we got revenge out of the way early.

Will the Utah Jazz make a deep run in the playoffs?

March 3, 2018 by Kelby Jones Leave a Comment

Utah Jazz Playoffs

As the hottest team entering the playoffs, are Quin and the Boys poised to surprise the masses by doing something special in the playoffs?

You may remember THIS APRIL 2018 ARTICLE by Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert. In the article, Gobert discusses his development and what led him to be successful in the NBA.

But more importantly was the promise Rudy left with all who read his words:

Utah Jazz Playoffs Rudy Gobert Player's Tribune

Any team that wants a piece of us is gonna have to come to Salt Lake City and deal with all 19,911 of you.

Rudy Gobert | April 2018 Player’s Tribune

Well, here we are. The time has come for Rudy’s words to come to fruition.

The Utah Jazz has done it’s part by reaching the playoffs. Now is the time for fans to reciprocate.

Are We About to See Something SPECIAL??

The Utah Jazz have seemed to fly under the radar for most of the season. At the beginning of the year, it seemed as though the team would seriously underperform.

However, as the season progressed, the Jazz seemed to be figuring out the game without anyone really noticing. Even with a mass of injuries plaguing the team night in and night out (especially at the PG position…), the team still seems to be on an entirely different level than others.

Right now, it seems as though the first round draw for the Jazz will be the Portland Trailblazers. Portland recently lost star guard CJ McCollum to a knee injury and center Jusuf Nurkic to a disgusting broken leg.

This may seem like a lucky break (pun intended) for Utah’s chances of avoiding a first-round exit. However, if the Jazz are able to overcome an injury-plagued Portland team, who would be waiting for them in the second round?

CLICK HERE for more from The Jazz Fan Show.

GSW/OKC First Round Matchup

Chances are Golden State comes out of the first round without much of an issue. If standings stay pat (which could absolutely not happen), the Warriors would match up with the Thunder in round one.

Originally, I thought this would be incredibly beneficial for the Jazz. OKC seems to match up really well with GSW, and has had some real battles with the defending champions this season.

However, Paul George seems to have at least one bum shoulder, which leaves Russell Westbrook to take the brunt of the teams shots.

Look for a whole bunch of complaining, with GSW beating OKC in six (my gut says five).

How much damage can OKC do to GSW in the first round?

If OKC looks anything like it did at the beginning of the season, look for the matchup to be a serious issue for GSW. But the REAL question still looms…

Can the Utah Jazz get to the Western Conference Finals?

It’ll take some serious high-level play and a cataclysmic GSW/OKC first round series, but I won’t say it’s not possible.

Take a look at fivethirtyeight.com’s NBA predictions below:

Utah Jazz Playoffs

Right now the Utah Jazz have a 4% chance of making the Finals, which would make that slightly higher for the WCF.

In conclusion…

My heart says first round exit (tampering expectations), my head says second round exit (logical) but my gut says WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS!

… with a little help, of course.
